Senator Jaquez Lewis Resigns
Early Tuesday morning via a Facebook post, Senator Jaquez Lewis announced she is resigning from the Senate.
As you know, Jaquez Lewis was facing an ethics complaint and this week the ethics committee was scheduled to hear all of the evidence against her.
Without referencing the impending ethics committee or any of the allegations against her, Jaquez Lewis stated, “I have wonderful news to share. I have the opportunity to serve with a regional not-for-profit that focuses on developing future women and LGBTQ+ leaders through an International lens. So, Today, I am announcing my resignation from the Colorado Senate.”
This resignation, however, didn’t completely end the ethics committee process. The committee still met this morning and went over how one of the aides that purportedly sent a letter on behalf of Jaquez Lewis contained in her answer filing did not in fact write the letter and does not even support what was written under her name.
It was going from bad to worse for Jaquez Lewis in the ethics committee so it makes sense that this happened when it did, despite her spin in the announcement.
A vacancy committee will now be formed within the local Democratic Party (mostly Eastern Boulder County) to select a replacement for Jaquez Lewis. Stay tuned for more information on that.
