POLICY UPDATES AND EDUCATIONAL ARTICLES TO HELP ORGANIZATIONS THRIVE
Anyone who has eaten there can tell you: CAFE 180 loves its vegetables. Now, thanks to a grant from the city of Englewood, this summer will be filled with fresh produce all season long. Located at the intersection of Broadway and US 285, the community garden space is prepped and ready to grow, with help from generous community partners, individual donors, and volunteers. CAFE 180 garden coordinator Annelyn Aficial will be overseeing all aspects of the garden this summer. She’s excited about what it means for the Englewood community. “Our community garden will help beautify a busy urban intersection,” she said. “And we’ll be increasing the availability of nutritious foods while strengthening our ties in the community. Annelyn also says the garden will help reduce environmental hazards and create a more sustainable system. “Finding sustainable ways to feed our community is important for us as a nonprofit,” said Sarah Lesyinski, CAFE 180’s executive director. “We’re excited to feed people food that’s grown right here in our community and provide educational opportunities to the people we serve at the garden as well.” Though the cafe has been closed to in-person dining due to Covid-19, it’s excited to welcome everyone in the community back to enjoy a new menu on its newly expanded patio. “It was important for us to reopen when it feels safe for everyone we serve to join us,” said Lesyinski. “We can’t wait to see everyone back on our patio, beginning June 1!” CAFE 180 is open for lunch, Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and located at 3315 S. Broadway (at Floyd). Order online at cafe180.org or call 720-289-0799. For more information or questions about our garden, volunteer, and more, contact Tracey at [email protected].
