City of Centennial COVID Update

4/6/2020

Dear Centennial Community,

I realize I just sent something out yesterday but things are changing so quickly and I want to pass along a few items.

Today, Governor Polis asked that effective immediately everyone wear a fabric mask over their mouth while in public. He did ask for medical masks to not be used so they can be preserved for medical personnel and first responders. He is encouraging the public to wear a bandana or scarf the covers their mouth while in public. I recommend visiting coloradomaskproject.com for information and resources on creating your own cloth mask.

Also today, the Cherry Creek School District and Littleton Public Schools along with many metro Denver area schools, announced they will continue remote distance learning for the remainder of the school year. I know this was a very difficult decision for our school superintendents but needed to be made for the health and safety of our community.

As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to increase, Tri-County Health is the best place to get the latest information. On their website (www.tchd.org) there is a page dedicated to the number of cases broken down by County. This information is updated daily at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 7 Tri-County Health, Arapahoe, Douglas and Adams Counties are hosting a Digital Telephone Town Hall at 7 p.m. about mental and public health during COVID-19. To participate, call 1-855-436-3656 or visit facebook.com/arapahoecounty at 7 p.m.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, RTD is suspending fares on all bus and rail services. Passengers are asked to enter through the rear bus door unless they need assistance boarding the vehicle. Similar actions have been taken in more than 50 international cities and are expected to protect the health of front line transit employees (and transit riders) by allowing for more social distancing.

Additionally, RTD has implemented food delivery service to Access-a-Ride customers. You are still able to book trips for essential purposes, including to purchase groceries. However, RTD is now offering grocery pickup to your home from the following locations:· King Soopers · Safeway · Community Ministry Southwest food bank · Senior Hub Senior Solutions · Adams County Food Bank.  You must call or go online to set up your order and pickup time yourself. Visit Access-a-Ride for more information.

If you’re interested in meeting with me virtually this month, please complete this form to schedule some time on a Tuesday morning between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

With the weekend upon us, I’d like encourage you to support our local restaurants. Visit www.centennialco.gov/thinklocal to view a list of open restaurants that deliver or allow for pick-up. Also, we have a few hashtags out there right now- #ChalkYourWalk so if you are enjoying sidewalk chalk while at home, share your photos on the City’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages (@CentennialGov). You can also share what you’re up to and use #WeAreOneCentennial.

Have a safe, healthy and enjoyable weekend.
