Ignite The Power of You - South Metro Denver Chamber’s Women in Business Host Annual Conference10/8/2018 On September 20, 2018 Women in Business hosted their annual conference. This year’s theme, Ignite the Power of You, was the notable message of the speakers and call to action of each attendee. Phylecia Jones, founder of Keep Up with Mrs. Jones, emceed the day-long event. Her high-energy and thoughtful recap of each speaker reminded attendees to consider – how will you ignite your power in your job, your next career transition or in your personal life? Kimberly Alexander, founder, and CEO of Kimberly Alexander Inc., challenged attendees to Stop Playing Small. Alexander provided attendees with an abundance of valuable information that could immediately be applied to their careers. One of the most engaging segments of the conference is always the panel discussion. This year’s panelists included Paige Goss, CEO of Point Solutions Group, Katie Kruger, CEO of Denver Metro Commercial Realtors Association, and Amanda Seier, Senior Manager of Community Development of American Cancer Society. The panel was well moderated by Mary Ann Littler, CEO of Peak to Peak Business Strategies. Panelist addressed questions like, what was your toughest transition, challenge, or hurdle and how did you get through it? They all agreed to ask for help, seek a mentor and be a sponsor to someone. The afternoon keynote connected with each attendee on a different level of what a career is like for a woman. Wende Curtis, Owner of Comedy Works, gave a heartfelt and raw speech about her career journey, touching on personal battles, mental toughness, and grit. Katie Trexler-Kern with Evolution Communication said, “It's always inspirational and encouraging to be in a room with so many motivated, smart, and savvy business women. Everyone has their own story, tools for success, and vision for where they want to go. Sharing those stories is a great opportunity, and we're glad we were able to participate.” With networking and a trade-show scheduled into the event, attendees were able to break after each speaker or panel, allowing them to exchange perspectives and build working relationships. The conference concluded a final networking and happy hour. Attendees reconvened on October 5, 2018, at Serendipity Labs, to reconnect about the conference. In small groups, attendees discussed what they have implemented into their lives since the conference and what they look forward to in 2019, stating they enjoyed having speakers who gave them actionable advice, schedule networking time. Thank you to the planning committee:
