On September 20, 2018 Women in Business hosted their annual conference. This year’s theme, Ignite the Power of You, was the notable message of the speakers and call to action of each attendee.
Phylecia Jones, founder of Keep Up with Mrs. Jones, emceed the day-long event. Her high-energy and thoughtful recap of each speaker reminded attendees to consider – how will you ignite your power in your job, your next career transition or in your personal life?
Kimberly Alexander, founder, and CEO of Kimberly Alexander Inc., challenged attendees to Stop Playing Small. Alexander provided attendees with an abundance of valuable information that could immediately be applied to their careers.
One of the most engaging segments of the conference is always the panel discussion. This year’s panelists included Paige Goss, CEO of Point Solutions Group, Katie Kruger, CEO of Denver Metro Commercial Realtors Association, and Amanda Seier, Senior Manager of Community Development of American Cancer Society. The panel was well moderated by Mary Ann Littler, CEO of Peak to Peak Business Strategies. Panelist addressed questions like, what was your toughest transition, challenge, or hurdle and how did you get through it? They all agreed to ask for help, seek a mentor and be a sponsor to someone.
The afternoon keynote connected with each attendee on a different level of what a career is like for a woman. Wende Curtis, Owner of Comedy Works, gave a heartfelt and raw speech about her career journey, touching on personal battles, mental toughness, and grit.
Katie Trexler-Kern with Evolution Communication said, “It's always inspirational and encouraging to be in a room with so many motivated, smart, and savvy business women. Everyone has their own story, tools for success, and vision for where they want to go. Sharing those stories is a great opportunity, and we're glad we were able to participate.”
With networking and a trade-show scheduled into the event, attendees were able to break after each speaker or panel, allowing them to exchange perspectives and build working relationships. The conference concluded a final networking and happy hour.
Attendees reconvened on October 5, 2018, at Serendipity Labs, to reconnect about the conference. In small groups, attendees discussed what they have implemented into their lives since the conference and what they look forward to in 2019, stating they enjoyed having speakers who gave them actionable advice, schedule networking time.
Thank you to the planning committee:

AEG Presents is excited to announce CHAD PRATHER STAR SPANGLED BANTER COMEDY TOUR live at Paramount Theatre Saturday, January 5, 2019. Doors 7:00pm | Show 8:00pm.
Chad Prather was entertaining audiences on television as early as two years old. The desire to be onstage started early. He began acting at the age of 6 and by the age of 20 he was traveling all over the world - from Africa to Southeast Asia, from Russia to Central America - using his communication skills to influence international leaders with humor and inspiration. Back home in America as "the preacher that makes everyone laugh." he was leading churches and non-profit organizations. Eventually Prather's communication skills opened doors for him to move into the corporate arena of motivational speaking and writing. Prather is known for his way with words. He is a comedian, armchair philosopher, musician, and observational humorist. He is often referred to as "the modern day Will Rogers." He is a fast-talking combination of Lewis Grizzard and Jeff Foxworthy. Originally from Augusta, GA Chad now calls the Fort Worth, TX area home. He grew up working with horses (an industry he is actively involved in) and is often recognized by his ever-present cowboy hat. His social media viral video views are counted in the hundreds of millions. Many recognize him from his fast talking, rapid fire rants from the front seat of his truck. CNN has labeled his the “Pick-up Pundit” and Fox News’ Tucker Carlson has called Prather, “supernaturally articulate.” He is known for his comedic family stories told from an adult perspective onstage. Prather has made numerous appearances on Fox News, CNN, A&E, The Blaze, MSN and has been featured in magazines from Southern Living to Nash Country Weekly. He is the host of Ride TV’s “It’s My Backyard.” And just recently finished his wildly successful 2016 “Kings of Cowtown Comedy Tour.” Prather has sold-out theaters all over America and is one of the country’s fastest rising and talked about comedians and entertainers. In 2016, Chad Prather had over 15 sold-out shows throughout Texas, Arkansas, and South Dakota.

DENVER – Local agency Versatility Creative Group is known around Colorado for its video production, graphic design, photography, social media and web design services. After helping hundreds of businesses, from small start-ups to national brands, some larger firms in Denver have taken notice and worked to entice the company to move to Denver to develop more accessible partnerships.
Building on a prosperous period of growth, 2018 marks the sixth year the media company has been in business – an important milestone for any company. Only 20% of all small businesses make it past their first 18 months, and only about half make it to the five-year marker.
“We will continue to be a community-first business. We’ve always listened to our clients’ needs and have always worked to make sure that the end-products were unique, polished and represented the client’s brand accurately. That’s helped set us apart and keep us growing since we first started out in a small room in our home in Castle Rock,” said Mark Michael, Versatility’s creative director and acting chairman of the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce.
Versatility’s work in Castle Rock has solidified its reputation in Douglas County, but it’s their work with companies like NBC Sports, Cooking Channel, The Children’s Museum, Downtown Denver Partnership and many more local and national companies that started to attract the attention of some of Denver’s larger firms.
“People started taking notice of what we were doing through our work and through our social media channels,” said Versatility’s Executive Producer Sandy Michael. “Of all the options available us, we felt that the opportunity to move to Denver best aligned with our long-term goals, and it will give us a chance to better serve the entire Front Range, including Castle Rock, which we still love so much.”
In a Denver business climate that seems to be both booming and saturated at the same time, it’s encouraging to focus on the success stories, but learn from the casualties.
“Every move we’ve ever made has been very calculated. There’s always a temptation to take out loans and try to expand very quickly. Trying to grow too fast can lead to some extreme complications early in a company’s lifecycle. To grow, you do have to take some risks, but they have to be calculated risks. We’ve always believed in ourselves and our team, and our risks are always well thought-out,” said Mark Michael.
Although Versatility has passed an important milestone in regard to small business longevity, there are no plans to relax anytime in the near future. With a combined 25 years of TV experience in Hollywood, the company would like to get back to its professional roots someday soon.
“Over the next several years, we plan to solidify our new partnerships in Denver while helping to transform existing businesses all across Colorado. We know how much blood, sweat and tears go into a business, and we’re going to continue to use our skills and the benefit of our experience to truly benefit the needs of the companies we work with. We also want to keep adding versatile, skilled members to our growing team, and get back into creating original programming,” said Sandy Michael.
Terracare Associates captures SEVEN prestigious National Awards of Excellence for Landscape Maintenance Services
Article source: https://myterracare.com/2018-nalp-awards-of-excellence-winners/
Our Terracare team is proud to announce that we were awarded seven 2018 Awards of Excellence by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP). This achievement recognizes the Terracare team for outstanding landscape maintenance and installation services honoring the following properties: 17Seventeen McKinney Construction Project, Centennial Center Park, Grapevine Public Safety Building, One Legacy West, The REC of Grapevine, The Source, and Wind Crest Retirement Community. We have built a strong partnership with our clients and are thrilled to share this award with each one of them. Our teams work diligently each day to bring out the best in every property.
17Seventeen McKinney Construction Project, Texas-Located in the heart of Uptown Dallas, this property features 19 stories of office space. It is also connected to a luxury apartment building by a one-acre amenity deck on the seventh floor. Terracare restored this amenity deck to reflect the rest of the upscale property. Many challenges arose during the completion of this project including sinking soil conditions and scheduling. Our crews met these issues with intuitive and cost effective solutions. We provided the client an atmosphere that was aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable for both the employees and the residents.
Centennial Center Park, Colorado-Serving as a focal point for the city of Centennial’s nearly 110,000 residents, this iconic park allows people of all ages to relax and gather to build a sense of community. Along with an awarding winning playground, the park also contains an amphitheater with large turf seating, a coffee shelter, a large picnic shelter and plaza, a native butte, walking gardens, and a creek that flows along the west side of the park. By keeping the park’s landscape in pristine condition, the city’s’ residents have the opportunity to grow in community while taking in the beautiful scenery that the park offers.
Grapevine Public Safety Building, Texas-This project is located on 104,000 square feet and includes both the police and fire department, the city jail, police dispatch, information technology services, the municipal court and two indoor kennels for the city’s K9 units. Given a shortened deadline due to a highly anticipated grand opening, our amazing team was able to meet this challenge. We created a property that reflects the pride and importance of the organizations that call the Public Safety Building home.
One Legacy West, Texas-One Legacy West is a 14-story, five star office tower located in the booming Legacy West area of Plano, Texas. Terracare was able to match the landscape of this property with the building’s breathtaking interior. To achieve this, we provided the client with ongoing maintenance of the project as well as enhancements throughout the property. Our incredible team has been overcoming the intense Texas heat and water restrictions to allow greenery to flourish. Water conservation has been crucial to this property and will continue to be a priority.
The REC of Grapevine, Texas-The REC of Grapevine is the crown jewel of Grapevine Parks and Recreation. It is located on 108,000 square feet. This includes 7,000 square feet of fitness rooms, a state-of-the-art senior center, an indoor pool, multipurpose rooms and game rooms. By resolving the poor soil conditions and installing a drip irrigation system we were able to provide the residents of Grapevine a facility where they can enjoy a healthier lifestyle and also enjoy the community.
The Source, Colorado-The Source is a bustling artisan food market in Denver’s River North Arts District. When the client decided to renovate their parking lot, they realized it was also the perfect time to update their landscape. The Source is located in an old iron works building. When it came time to complete the new landscape the client wanted an atmosphere with a more organic feel. Furthermore, the client desired a beautiful landscape that their guests could admire as they make their way to the entrance. To accomplish this, our crews started work at three in the morning every day to avoid the Denver traffic. In addition to that they had to use innovative techniques to address issues. These issues included lack of curb, runoff issues and a limited tree install space.
Wind Crest Retirement Community, Colorado-Wind Crest Retirement Community encompasses over 84 acres and allows for an upscale living center for those ages 62 and older. The client’s primary objective for this property is to provide a safe environment for all of the individuals who visit and live there. Moreover, the client requests a well-maintained and beautiful landscape for the residents to enjoy. Our landscape gives the current residents with spectacular surroundings and encourages future residents to join the community. Being able to use the landscape as a selling point to potential residents is very important to the client.
Terracare is very proud of all the hard work that our teams do day to day on these and all of the properties that we are privileged to partner with. We value and applaud the teams at Terracare. Thank you for your hard work and congratulations!
