INTERNATIONAL GALA FETES DIPLOMATS ONSTAGE -- South Metro Denver Chamber & Denver Sister Cities Collaborate!
The South Metro Denver Chamber partnered with Denver Sister Cities International on Saturday, August 27, 2016 to present this year's installment of The Chamber's Colorado Consular Corps Collaborative Celebration on the stage of The Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The Presenting Sponsor was CSU Global Campus, with President Dr. Becky Takeda-Tinker leading the CSU Global delegation.
Doug Tisdale, EVP of the Chamber, served as the entertaining emcee, introducing the Dean of the Consular Corps, Hon. Consul Juha Makikalli (Finland), for an official welcome. Tisdale and Makikalli then introduced the two dozen diplomats who graced the stage, including Consuls from Canada (CG Stephane Lessard), Japan (CG Makoto Ito), Russia (CG Sergey Petrov of San Francisco and Hon. Consul General Deb Palmieri), and Mongolia (Hon. Consul and Denver Sister Cities Board Member James Wagenlander). Other Consuls in attendance included Australia (Mark O'Regan), Belgium (Frank Schuchat), France (Jeff Richards), Germany (Paul Maricle), Italy (Giovanna Carriero-Contreras), Mexico (Elie Smilovitz), the Netherlands (Max Peeters)_, Poland (Tomasz Skotnicki), Slovakia (Greg Fasing), Slovenia (Lucky Vidmar), Spain (Pepe Parrado), Sweden (Don Peterson), the United Kingdom (Erin Kuhn).
Guest speakers included CSU Global's EVP and Provost Dr. Jon Bellum, Denver Deputy Mayor Donald J. Mares and Fiona Arnold, the Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
Distinguished guests enjoyed lavish display of food and beverage on a stage dramatically lit by the very competent production staff at The Ellie.
Following the CCC onstage, the assembled dignitaries retired to the Chambers Grant Salon in The Ellie for the Gala Dinner to celebrate Denver Sister Cities International and its recent award, being named as the Number One Best Overall Sister Cities Program in the entire world, an honor accepted by Sister Cities Executive Director Beth Hendrix.
Guests enjoyed the musical stylings of Encore Music and an excellent meal provided by Kevin Taylor's Restaurant.
Much credit for the success of the evening goes to Stephanie Short, who exercised all of her experience as theatrical and event planner, along with her skills of diplomacy.
Many thanks to the talented Stevie Crecelius for the pictures in this post.
