Colorado project becomes first-ever industry-accredited public-private partnership agency
With almost 40,000 municipal, township and county governments in the U.S, Centennial’s Public Works Department became the 119th accredited public works agency, and the first public-private partnership public works agency in the U.S.!
“This is a milestone for our City. Meeting the criteria for this accreditation confirms we have been moving in the right direction since the City was formed,” said Centennial Mayor Cathy Noon. “We strive to be efficient, effective and accountable to our citizens in the services provided by the City through smart contracts such as what we have with CH2M. This achievement recognizes excellence as well as our innovation.”
Centennial’s Project Manager, Craig Faessler, said, “This accreditation is a validation of CH2M’s commitment to superior service delivery on the Centennial project.” CH2M and the City of Centennial began the accreditation process in November 2014. Two years later, the Centennial Public Works Department completed the process to be recommended by the APWA review team for accreditation.
“The process actually started on July 1, 2008, the first day of our contract,” said Centennial's Public Works Director, Travis Greiman. “Since then, the project has continuously improved service delivery through ongoing refinement in workflow processes and the incorporation of innovations. The Public Works Department is very proud to be receiving this accreditation.”
The accreditation process is no easy feat. There are 40 chapters and 608 subchapters in the accreditation process in public works, 360 of those applicable to Centennial. CH2M and the City wanted to demonstrate that the city is compliant with the accreditation requirements for each applicable subchapter. To do so, they provided documentation of city policies, backed up by actual processes and associated work proofs related to each individual accreditation service area.
The accreditation program aims to motivate organization self-improvement; offer an evaluation and education program; recognize exemplary performance; improve public works performance and delivery of services; increase professionalism; and instill pride among agency staff, elected officials and the local community.
